ESSA Achieves Kosher Milestones in Cape Town

Winemaker Josh Rynderman at the distillery where the only kosher South African brandy is produced.

2025 will go down in history as ESSA's most influential year. The team hit numerous kosher milestones, achieved new heights, and pushed the boundaries of kosher in Cape Town and South Africa. Let's name a few of these achievements?

  • Received the highest scores in a blind tasting against non-kosher conducted by South Africa's most influential wine critic, Michael Fridjohn.

  • Released one of the only kosher wines exclusively fermented and barrel-aged in Acacia barrels.

  • Launched the first-ever kosher South African 3 year old potstill brandy. And yes, that's kosher for Passover, too! A project which started in 2022, it was released with great success.

  • Signed an export deal with an importer in Israel, being the first South African wine company to export kosher non-mevushal wine to Israel.

  • Released its first 'Reserve' status wine, our 2023 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which aged 25 months in French and American oak barrels.

Our unwavering commitment to 'quality over quantity' puts our kosher winery in Cape Town at the forefront of kosher wine production in Africa. As the sole producers who do not flash-pasteurize our wines, we remain the only kosher winemaking team create wines akin to our non-kosher rivals. ESSA Achieves Kosher Milestones in Cape Town.
